Blog: Why Nobody Leaves

Evansville is a not so interesting town that people cannot seem to leave. If you were born here, you tend to stay here. People who leave are often drawn back.

Evansville is like a giant black hole and once you have been tainted by the experience you are always pulled back here by an unexplainable force of gravity. Nobody knows for sure why this happens, but the apathy that arises from the sense of being trapped does more than keep us in Evansville. It makes us miserable to be here.

The city may be a nice place to raise a family, but when the children grow old there is a significant lack of jobs outside of certain sectors. For some jobs you have to go elsewhere. If your lucky you obtain a job elsewhere and are successful. However you still have to come back to Evansville to visit family. Family from Evansville tends to stay in Evansville. So if you move away you often find yourself eventually moving back.

Some people do not leave at all. Some people stay in Evansville because it is all they know and everyone they know is here (or have not moved to far away). These people stay because they lack experience that things can be better.

My advice if you are miserable in Evansville. Leave as soon as possible do not wait until it is convenient, because with the mysterious gravitational pull of this city it will always be more convenient to stay.
If you get the chance go, because it may never
come again. You only have one life so do your
best to live it well.
